3 year Practitioner’s Program

Abhyasa = uninterrupted repeated practice
Krama = method or arrangement

Success towards Yoga is no mystery or something esoteric beyond one’s reach. It requires a persistent commitment to practice. Over time, transformation is inevitable and sustainable. Candidates for this program must commit to, at least, one year of continuous study. The goal is for a total of three years of sadhana.

Please remember this is not enough time to complete the enormous task of spiritual evolution, rather it is merely a sample of what is required on a daily basis from the aspirant for many years, more likely lifetimes.

Patanjali describes the necessity of abhyasa in chapter 1: verses 12, 13, 14 of his Yoga Sutras.

Swami Satyananda Saraswati gives his interpretation of the sutras as follows:

Abhyasa means to be perfectly fixed in the spiritual effort (sadhana). Just practicing something for some time is not abhyasa. Abhyasa means continued practice you cannot leave it at all. It becomes part of your personality, a part of your individual nature. When abhyasa becomes natural, firmly rooted and complete, it leads to samadhi.

There are 3 conditions for the practice of abhyasa: it should be practiced with complete faith; it should continue uninterrupted and it should go on for quite a long time. When these conditions are fulfilled, abhyasa becomes firmly established and a part of one’s nature.

It is often observed that many aspirants are very enthusiastic in the beginning, but their faith dwindles away later on. This should never happen to a student of Yoga who wants to achieve the goal in this very birth.

The Program includes the study of:

  • Shadow Yoga and Nrtta Sadhana forms
  • Hatha Yoga (shatkarma, asana, bandha, mudra, pranayama, sound)
  • Yoga Philosophy and Anatomy (marma, vayu, nadi)
  • Yogic Texts
  • Ayurveda
  • Mitahara, Diet and Cleansing Techniques

This Abhyasa Krama Program is divided into three years with each year beginning in September only.

  • Year 1 – 2019/2020 : Shadow Yoga Preludes full formats
  • Year 2 – 2020/2021 : Third Prelude, asanas, mudras (dates TBD)
  • Year 3 – 2021/2022 : Nrtta Sadhana and Angaharas (dates TBD)

Only those successfully completing the first year will be permitted to continue with the following years.

No certification will be given. It is for those who truly love the practice and want to further their personal studies and growth.

For those living in Montreal, it is highly suggested to attend as many other courses offered during the year.

Radhasri, Rhonda Fogel, founder of Hatha Yoga Shala in Montreal, has been teaching yoga in Canada since 1998 and is an authorized Shadow Yoga teacher since 2005. She has been teaching yoga non-stop for over 20 years with 15 of those being dedicated solely to shadow yoga.
